Overview
CBRL is a learned society for the advancement of public education on the Levant through the promotion and dissemination of research in the humanities, social sciences and related disciplines. We work on and in Jordan, Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Syria and Cyprus. One of the British International Research Institutes affiliated with the British Academy is an independent, not-for-profit charity that conducts, supports, and promotes world-class research ranging from Palaeolithic archaeology to contemporary social science. Our activity started in 1919 with the British School of Archaeology in Jerusalem. Today, CBRL has an administrative office in London and two regional research institutes – the Kenyon Institute in East Jerusalem and the British Institute in Amman – with strong networks across the other countries of the Levant. Our vision is for research in the humanities, social sciences and related fields to make the fullest possible contribution to fostering knowledge and understanding of the Levant, for the common good.
