Established in 2021, Akili Maliasili is a non-profit, non-partisan, non-governmental organization based in Kenya. The organization aims to intervene in communities within and around Kenya where the adverse effects of climate change and environmental degradation hinder, delay, or prematurely terminate children’s progressive education. These natural and human processes disproportionately affect poor rural children whose guardians depend on nature through fishing or crop and livestock farming for their livelihoods. We will attain positive intervention by providing the school-going children with the support system to continue and complete primary and secondary schooling. We foresee a future where children maximize their academic potential to access higher learning, employment, self-reliance, and socio-economic empowerment as youths and adults. Through programs involving affected individuals, we will increase community mitigation, resilience, and adaptation to the links between illiteracy, poverty, and nature. Our mission is To support the education of children affected by climate change, land devastation, and environmental degradation. Our vision is A world where the negative effects of climate change, land devastation, and environmental degradation do not deny any child their right to education.
