Aug 2013 - Present
What began as an after-school empowerment club and using my own home as a rescue center for homeless girls and victims of abuse in 2013 has evolved into something bigger than I could have dreamed - and it’s still growing. As Executive Director I manage our staff of 10, overseeing our numerous ongoing operations: - Partnership with Cornerstone Christian Secondary School- Weekly feeding progam 3 days a week for 40+ students- Weekly mentorship program 2 days a week for 90+ student with visiting lecturers- Teen mothers program addressing specific adversities faced by young women - Rescue home providing a safe sanctuary for homeless girls and women and victims of abuse- Vocational training and job creations program, creating opportunities for women to develop financial literacy and independence so that they can seek sustainable, safe, and empowered sources of income - Voices Awake Ventures: our entrepreneurial program that seeks to find sustainable funding for our nonprofit. I coordinate with our affiliate organization UrbanPromise International to manage incoming donations, and have toured the United States multiple times to connect with the wonderful communities who support Voices Awake through sponsorships and fundraisers. We partner with organizations working in our community with women, girls, children, hence facilitated Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Initiatives, HIV & AIDS awareness, and sexual reproductive health campaigns.
