Bushlight is part of the Centre for Appropriate Technology (CAT); a national, Indigenous‐governed, not‐for‐profit organisation focused on working with Indigenous communities to secure sustainable livelihoods through appropriate technology, established in 1980. Bushlight was established in 2002 with the goal to improve remote Indigenous communities’ access to appropriate, reliable energy services. Our strong reputation has been built on our significant multidisciplinary capability in: • remote area energy infrastructure Asset Management; • designing high-quality, appropriately engineered renewable energy systems; • community and stakeholder engagement and training on renewable energy, safe energy system operation, and system maintenance; and • installation, commissioning, optimisation and maintenance of renewable energy systems. Role: Provides overall asset management for all 244 remote power systems covered by Bushlight’s maintenance program consisting of 1.5MW PV, more than 8, 800 battery cells, 1.2GWh pa and more than 250, 000km travelled by road. This includes: • contract management (35 contracts currently held by 13 contractors) • technical troubleshooting • parts management • stakeholder management • staff management ( direct line management responsibility for 4 engineers, indirect responsibility for trades, training and community engagement staff) • optimising service delivery and lifecycle management • budget management. Throughout this role I have been involved in developing and implementing processes, policies and procedures to drive efficiencies, refocus on service delivery and stakeholder safety. Of note has been the development of a battery health check where battery cell failures can be predicted up to 3 years in advance; the development of a scheduling tool for community visits and the development of a series of kpis and financial indicators to assist with the complex management of 244 power systems. Solar Hubs Project Officer
-
Mar 2011 - Sep 2012
At Mildura Region Solar Hubs we developed and implemented a plan to increase the local solar industry by 785kW over 18 months. This was achieved through industry, stakeholder and community consultations and defining and conveying a concise streamlined installation process based on industry best practise. The result was to increase the local solar industry by 2 395kW, or 7.7 times the local solar capacity. this was achieved on time, on budget and within acceptable risk levels. The project is now a state finalist for 2 Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria Awards - Pam Keating Environmental Sustainability Award and Community / Government Partnership Award. Show less
