Communications Manager
-
Aug 2017 - Sep 2018
NUS is like no other place i've worked, and that's partly what makes it so wonderful. I came to NUS because I believe education is key to a better world. Our mission is to promote, defend and extend the rights of students, whilst developing and championing strong SUs.A surprisingly small team, as the only Communications Manager, my role includes:1. Social Media Strategy - what does this even mean? I manage over 150,000 followers across multiple platforms, run monthly creative meetings, upskill direct reports to manage channels, plan and deliver coverage for events and make sure we stop, report and learn by using social media listening tools.2. Communications Plans - We execute A LOT of plans at NUS, from Votes at 16 to Brexit, each one of these plans I review, sign off and help shape. I also lead the communications strategy and execute NUS' key campaigns including the 2017-19 priority the Poverty Commission, National Conference 2018 and SUs 2018.3. Comms Process- With so much comms activity a key focus for me since joining NUS has been making sure we look forward, I introduced a new comms process across the organisation to make sure we are objective not deliverable focussed. Message for more details, I can't give all my secrets away here!4. Stakeholder Management - As well as managing a team of 3 Communication Coordinators, I work across the organisation to ensure we spot opportunities, avoid duplication of work and allow ourselves enough time to be creative and not just do things the way we always have. Plus, I enjoy a chat, so the benefits of cross-organisational working is really just a perk :)The next part of my plans for NUS is working with organisations, who believe in our values, across our communication plans.
