Refugee Status Determination Assistant
-
May 2016 - Aug 2018
I have interviewed, assessed and determined whether asylum seekers are eligible for Refugee Status as per the 1951 UN Refugee Convention. This is done through means of one to one interviews with the asylum seekers wherein I have drafted questions and culled out information from asylum seekers. I have then legally assessed their individual cases whilst taking into consideration the relevant UNHCR guidelines, country of origin information and other relevant guidelines. I have had the opportunity to work with people from diverse backgrounds, different countries ranging from the African continent, the Middle East, South Asia and some countries in Europe. I have worked with various vulnerable categories of people including those with mental, physical disabilities, Unaccompanied Minors, LGBTQI+, survivors of SGBV, etc. and have coordinated with the protection team in ensuring their protection.
