Magic Bus is one of India's largest poverty alleviation programmes, working with 4 lakh children and 9000 trained youth mentors from some of the most marginalized urban and rural communities. We take children from a childhood full of challenges to a life with meaningful livelihoods by equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need to grow up and move out of poverty. Children on the Magic Bus programme complete school and go on to enrol in vocational institutes or colleges. They successfully fend off destabilizers such as child marriage and child labor and become first generation salary earners. Our youth-centred Livelihoods Programme connects the aspirations and potential if young people to available market opportunities. We build their employability skills and map job potential based on individual strengths and mobility. We work with support structures in the community to ensure results in social, emotional and economic well being of all young people living in that area. As a part of the Sustainability Department, I manage 10 Adolescent and Youth projects in partnership with the following organizations - Swiss Philanthropy Foundation, Prudential Global Services, Tata Power Community Development Trust, Qualcomm India, eClerx, Fossil Foundation, Blue Dart, HDFC Ltd. & Deshpande Foundation. Collectively, these projects reach out to 42,000 children in 5 states & 8 districts with a turnover of 5 crores per annum. My main responsibilities entail - Effectively coordinating between internal departments and functions at the Head Office and Regional Program Offices in order to ensure smooth operations on the field; tracking progress made against deliverables and timelines committed to partner companies/funders, periodically monitoring and assessing program quality, generating Narrative & Financial Reports on a Monthly/Quarterly/Bi-Annual basis as required by partners/Funders and managing client relationships.

The YMCA branch in Juhu is a shelter home for young homeless boys, within the ages of 4 and 15. I worked as a mentor for the kids along with other volunteers of the shelter and was involved in a range of activities such as helping them with their regular school subjects and schoolwork, organizing cricket/football tournaments for them, organizing fundraisers, conducting teaching sessions on topics of their choice as well as sessions that focused on equipping them with social skills. Every alternate week I also made it a point to listen to each child’s grievances about anything that was bothering to help them express themselves better and to promote healthy discussions about problems.
