Ryan Morstad exemplifies the values and characteristics of a true leader. I have had the pleasure of working alongside Ryan for the past two years and can attest to the fact that Ryan's service on behalf of the students of SAIT has made a lasting impact not only on campus but across the province of Alberta. Ryan was integral in the restructuring of SAITSA's governance, the growth of ASEC, and the strengthening of the Alberta student movement. The potential shown by Ryan is inspiring and I can hardly wait to see the positive impact Ryan will have on our culture.

Ryan Morstad is one of the most dedicated individuals I have had the privilege of working with. He has run multiple student clubs on the SAIT campus, worked as director, chair, and president of the SAIT Students' Association, and been the driving force behind the implementation of a Fall Reading Week and Ombudsperson office at SAIT. Not afraid to take charge and speak up, he has a strong ethical backbone that allows him to be a standout leader among leaders. However, Ryan is not only a leader in the realm of student advocacy. He is an excellent student, having finished his Bachelor of Business Administration with a 3.93/4.00 GPA. He has also taken this academic knowledge and leveraged it into successful businesses that fit into unfulfilled markets around Calgary & Alberta. Further, he has done all of this while working as the Chairperson of his community association, Hillhurst Sunnyside. The fact that he has seen significant academic and personal success while giving back to his community in such a time-heavy position should be an indicator of the value he places on the people around him and the lengths to which he is willing to go to meet their needs. I count myself lucky to have seen his growth from Director to President and Honours graduate at SAIT, and I anticipate even greater achievements in his future. Wherever Ryan applies himself, greatness seems to inevitably follow. I believe that he would be an excellent asset to any team and unreservedly recommend him as someone who is an adaptable, innovative, intelligent leader.

In the winter of 2019 I was hired by the SAIT Students Association to run the CVITP Tax program for Students at SAIT. I had to implement a program to organize and train SAIT Students to complete and file tax returns, free of charge, to other students and members of the community. I researched and implemented scheduling and appointment software, as well as created a comprehensive training manual. With my team of well trained volunteers we were able to successfully complete and file over +300 tax returns. Show less

In the position of Turn Around Crew (TAC) agent I was responsible for all "below wing" activities involved from when an airplane arrives to when it departs. This means that I along with a rotating team of individuals were responsible for guests baggage from when they checked it in to when the plane departed. Crews must be organized and efficient to make sure planes are able to leave on time, and that bags reach guests at the terminal as quickly as possible. This job required a great sense of time management as well as teamwork and responsibility. Key successes include: - Lead 4-6 person crews to successfully service and facilitate the departure of over 800 flights - Coached +50 individuals' skills to be able to perform as effectively and safely as possible Show less

      • Jun 2012 - Aug 2012

A camp counselor for groups of 12 year olds for 2 week periods over the summer holidays. In this position, myself and a co-counselor were responsible for each group 24 hours a day for each two week period as this is an overnight camp. We guided our groups through wilderness and team building activities as well as taught them survival skills. This position allowed for creativity in how we taught our groups about the joys of the outdoors and was a great learning experience in leadership. Also, I was able to learn the best ways to deal with flaring tempers and how to settle disputes. Helping kids get excited about and comfortable with the outdoors is a very rewarding experience. Helping customers find what they need and presenting a positive and friendly face for the company. I worked in the seasonal department which was very busy so I learned how to quickly help lots of customers and always did so while being friendly and caring! This job helped me to learn about customer service and how to successfully utilize my team members. When It was extremely busy around the holiday season or during heavy snowfalls we had to work together to successfully help as many customers as possible. I also recognized through this experience that I love to keep busy at work and thus always am doing something. For example, as sales staff when the store was near empty I would typically grab a broom and sweep the aisles or help out another department. Show less
