I have known Ross for over four years on a personal and professional level. Ross is wonderful to work with, very approachable and willing to assist others. He has a great team ethos. His dedication to the cause and willingness to share his knowledge makes him such an asset to any team. This can be seen with his voluntary work with Include a Charity. As mentioned by another colleague, his contribution and passion is something the sector should indeed be grateful for.

Ross has a wonderful passion for gifts in Wills. His ability to put the donor and their journey above all else was a pleasure to work with. He has great attention to detail, the ability to create meaningful relationships with everyone from colleagues to counterparts, contacts and donors. As mentioned, his passion for promoting gifts in Wills in an appropriate manner makes Ross an asset to any charity. I look forward to hopefully working with him again one day.

The Lost Dogs' Home is one of the oldest and largest animal welfare charities in Australia. We care for thousands of lost and abandoned dogs and cats, reuniting them wherever possible with their owners or finding them loving new homes through our wonderful adoption and fostering services. With a long history of championing animal welfare, The Lost Dogs' Home understands the local community. The compassionate and caring teams at the home work with pet's families, local councils and the animals in our care to help give pets their best possible lives. The amazing care that is provided to lost pets is only made possible by the generosity and thoughtfulness of our community and through donations from animal lovers around the country. A large proportion of that support comes in the form of wonderful gifts included in our supporters Wills. These special gifts are from people just like you and me - those who believe that animal welfare is a cause worth fighting for and that pets deserve the love and affection they need to fill their hearts. Pets deserve to be well cared for by their families, upon whom they depend and trust in return for the unconditional love that they provide. Alongside providing reuniting and adoption services, The Lost Dogs' Home also spends its time educating the community about caring for their animals throughout their lives. The Home is there for pets and their families, from the beginning all the way through to the end. Show less

    • Gifts in Wills Manager - The Alfred Foundation
      • Jan 2020 - Mar 2021

The Alfred is one of Victoria’s most iconic hospitals and delivers the most comprehensive range of adult specialist medical and surgical services in the State. As the provider of 14 statewide services including major trauma, burns, intensive care and organ transplants, The Alfred is a health service caring for all Victorians. The Alfred Foundation creates and nurtures philanthropic partnerships between the community and the hospital. It is the vehicle to which individuals, community groups and organisations can contribute to The Alfred’s vital role in saving lives and advancing medical research. As Gifts in Wills Manager of The Alfred Foundation, I oversaw the development, implementation and management of the Gifts in Wills fundraising program and activities to support healthcare at The Alfred. Every year, The Alfred Foundation receives a remarkable amount of support from the community not only in the form of wonderful gifts included in people's Will, but from trusts, foundations, generous donations from individuals, local organisations and corporate partners. This generosity has enabled us to support the acquisition of cutting-edge technology, purchase new equipment, redevelop and expand our facilities so we can improve patient care, build our knowledge and share our learnings with the world. By including a gift in your Will to The Alfred Foundation, you can help The Alfred continue to provide the very best healthcare to the community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Show less

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) is a wonderful charity passionate about ending cruelty to all animals and creating a more humane society by actively promoting the care and protection of animals. RSPCA Victoria was established in Melbourne in 1871. Our team of RSPCA Inspectors work to protect animals from cruelty, receiving more than 12,000 complaints every year, prosecuting offenders and rescuing animals from dangerous situations. We operate Animal Care Centres across Victoria, providing refuge, care and finding loving new homes whenever possible to more than 20,000 animals every year. As a registered charity, we rely on community support to carry out our work saving and protecting animals. More than 90% of our funding coming from the generous support of the Victorian community. In fact over half of our charitable income comes from gifts left to the RSPCA in the Wills of thoughtful and compassionate people who care about animals as much as we do. Gifts in Wills have the power to safeguard the future wellbeing of animals and help to create a loving, caring society. Gifts in Wills income for 2018/19 in Victoria was $23.4million and the income budget for 2019/20 is $13.4million. Show less

I was the Chair of the Advisory Committee of the Include a Charity campaign - a group of over 100 Australian charities working together to highlight the vital role that gifts in Wills play in benefiting our communities. Include a Charity is a social change campaign designed to raise awareness of the ease and effectiveness of including a charitable gift in your Will. It aims to make including charitable gifts a normal part of Will-making and a widely recognised and respected way of giving amongst the Australian public. The campaign is a close collaboration between some of Australia's leading charities - including The Cancer Council, Heart Foundation, Red Cross, Guide Dogs, Mission Australia, Stroke Foundation, the Salvos and Save the Children Australia - all working together to generate more charitable income and build a strong foundation for gifts in Wills fundraising in Australia. I worked with Include a Charity's Advisory Committee to develop the public awareness campaign, actively engage with the charity membership, expand Gifts in Wills-related research and also to build meaningful relationships within the legal and financial planning community. The Heart Foundation is one of Australia's most-loved and well-recognised charities. Over the past five decades, the Heart Foundation has championed the heart health of all Australians by funding world-class cardiovascular research, supporting health professionals in their practice, developing health promotion activities, informing and educating the public, and assisting people with cardiovascular disease. All of this with virtually no funding from Government. With almost half of their total national income coming from gifts in their supporters' Wills, the gifts in Wills program is an integral an important part of their national fundraising activities. The Heart Foundation in Victoria received over $8m from their supporters' gifts in Wills in 2011. I work with the fundraising team to inspire our existing supporters to include charitable gifts in their Wills, steward relationships with those who have already included gifts in their Wills and attract new supporters to consider the Heart Foundation as their charity of choice. Save the Children is the world's largest independent child rights development organisation, touching the lives of over 100 million children every year in more than 126 countries. As a member of Australia's National Philanthropy Team, I was responsible for developing and implementing a national Gifts in Wills (bequest / legacy) program and strategy, nurturing relationships with long-term supporters and donors and ultimately driving growth in income from gifts in supporter's Wills and their lifetime giving. My role ranged from new supporter acquisition, legacy marketing and relationship stewardship through to the management of estates and overseeing the probate process to ensure the receipt of funds from gifts in Wills. I grew income from an annual average of less than $500,000 to anticipated income of more than $4m for 2012 and developed a strong pipeline of future support. I was responsible for increasing the number of supporters interested in including a gift in their Will from 70 when I first arrived to over 800 in the two years I worked at Save the Children Australia.
