I had the pleasure to start working with Bobby in 2011 and have appreciated the opportunity to continue to work with him at different times in the years since. Bobby is truly an expert in developing sustainability standards and the tools needed to monitor performance against them. When you work with Bobby he brings with him a wealth of knowledge and lessons learned from other projects. This information is extremely helpful at ensuring each project is set up for success and that each project is seen to completion in a way that sets an example for future projects. This type of support was most recently demonstrated when Bobby helped Travel Oregon develop standards and related monitoring tools for sustainable tourism and destination management. Bobby’s experience spans the entire tourism value chain and he is an asset for any team.

Simply put, Bobby is an expert in his field. He possesses a deep knowledge of sustainable tourism standard setting and impact assessment gleaned from years of direct experience. He is also a tremendously diligent worker who leads his team by example. During my time at Sustainable Travel International, Bobby allowed me access to high-level projects and always supported my professional development. I am grateful to Bobby for his mentorship, and I continue to make use of the skills he helped me cultivate.

Learn more at www.mountainideal.org In 2020, we reimagined the Mountain IDEAL program as a response to the growing demand of outdoor spaces and unfortunate impacts of over-tourism. Mountain IDEAL is focused on meeting destinations where they are and providing the tools and resources to communities to help destination managers design a stewardship framework to better engage with their local community stakeholders; encouraging the development of messaging around responsible travel to visitors; providing resources to local businesses to support sustainability improvements; and helping communities gain recognition for commitment to sustainable tourism. We are creating a network of destinations and communities that are facing similar challenges and encouraging peer-to-peer learning and sharing of best practices. We offer destination specific solutions that are community oriented. We can be a mentor or an extra set of hands that is available to work at your pace. Mountain IDEAL is your destination stewardship toolkit. At its core, Mountain IDEAL is a sustainable destination management standard that is formally recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. The standard was designed to guide destination managers through the process of implementing a stewardship framework to advance sustainable community development through responsible, regenerative, and transformational tourism. The Mountain IDEAL Destination Stewardship Framework aims to: Improve quality-of-life attributes Enhance visitor experience Safeguard sense of place
