    • University Supervisor of Student Teachers
      • 2006 - 2008

Responsible for instructing and supervising student teachers during their practical clinical work in an appropriate school setting and providing a written evaluation of student teacher's performances. Provided information and reflection assignments for student teachers, consulted with faculty to foster a positive environment, and coordinated logistics of the student teaching experience with strategic communications. Unique degree programs throughout the School are helping both pre-service and existing professionals expand their knowledge and enhance their careers. In particular, the master’s and doctoral programs in Counselor Education, School Administration, and School Psychology enjoy a national reputation, just as the NCATE accredited Leading Teacher Program, an innovative undergraduate curriculum, is setting the pace for preparing the next generation of educators to achieve their academic goals. Student teaching is the most significant phase of the student’s certification program. It represents the bridge between professional preparation and professional practice. By definition, student teaching is a period of guided teaching when the teacher candidate takes increasing responsibility for leading the school experiences of a group of learners over a period of consecutive weeks. The major goal of student teaching is to provide an opportunity for the student teacher to make practical applications of knowledge, learning principles, and techniques of teaching. At Duquesne, student teachers demonstrate the culmination of the development of their knowledge, skills, and dispositions in each of the five domains in a PK-12 classroom setting. The cooperating teacher, the university supervisor and the student teacher view themselves as a team. All team members keep the lines of communication open and work together to achieve a successful experience. Show less
