I've worked with Raluca for the past two years. In those years she helped me transitioning into what was a new job for me too. We've worked together in improving our company assessment and monitoring process for GHG emissions reductions and set up from scratch an impact monitoring framework for investments in the energy access space. Raluca's productivity, energy and willingness to learn along with her positive attitude make her not only an asset for any team but an excellent colleague to work with. I would love to work with her again and I'm sure she will contribute to make this world a better place!

Safe water and sanitation is an immense challenge in developing countries, from a health and safety as well as environmental perspective. Approximately 80% of the wastewater globally ends up in rivers and water bodies untreated. Unsafely managed sanitation units also contribute to significant GHG emissions. At Mosan, we are offering safe sanitation for water scarce, densely populate areas ensuring that the end resources are treated and reused in agriculture, where they can replace synthetic fertilizers.

The project consisted in developing an extension of the electricity market of Switzerland and the four neighboring countries. The new model includes the rest of the countries of Europe and is based on the TIMES (The Integrated MARKAL-EFOM System) model. It employs a partial equilibrium model based on maximizing total surplus, analyzing historical production and generation data as well as enforcing different development assumptions and policies under an uncertainty scenario. The model is able to forecast future electricity prices as well as trade volumes predicting declining and developing technologies.

During the internship I familiarized myself with First Solar’s simulation tools and optimization processes in order to simulate and do the basic design of future power plants as well as assess past projects with respect to their predictions. During the first part of the internship different analysis, assessments and comparisons were conducted on already built power plants.During the second part of the internship the focus was on future projects: site analysis, basic design and simulation for sites and scenario simulations for future projects.

The research project was focused on studying the behavior of avalanche silicon diodes, individual or in different circuits, varying the components values. The purpose was the observation of a topic in the differences that occurred during the experiments, thus predicting how each element works and affects the system.
