Since completing my role as a teacher trainer at the Fukuoka Prefectural Education Center in 1997, I have continued to be involved in training English teachers in Japan, both native and non-native speakers. I have been called upon to give keynote speeches and workshop presentations to groups of English teachers all over Japan. My audiences have ranged from 30-40 up to 1,000 teachers. Among the themes I usually cover in my speeches are: Effective Team Teaching for Large Classes; Incorporating Group Work for Skills Development; and Using Technology in English Education.

I sent Japanese students and adults to Canterbury Christ Church University for either long-term General English courses or master's degree courses (primarily the MA in TESOL or the MSc in International Business). I supported them in their applications and, if they were applying for a master's degree, I usually also trained them to pass the IELTS exam at a high enough level to enter the course. I set up Eigocenter in 2009. This was an English conversation (eikaiwa) school and overseas study agency. While some of my clients came to improve or maintain their general English conversation skills, most of them were studying for such English proficiency tests as IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, and STEP (eiken). A major part of my work was setting up and running overseas study courses in the UK. I took around 150 high school and university students to the UK each year. These courses were for two or three weeks and were based in Oxford, Bath, and Canterbury. In total, I took more than 1,600 students to the UK on such short-term courses. In addition, I was an official agent for Canterbury Christ Church University in the UK, and I sent Japanese students there for either long-term English courses or master's degree courses.

I have had a long association with Kyushu Sangyo University in Fukuoka. I first started working there as a part-time instructor in 1997, and then moved on to a special full-time contract from 1999-2002. After several years working elsewhere, I came back in 2009 and worked as an Adjunct English Instructor until 2017, when I became too busy with my other work to continue. However, I still have a good relationship with the university and regularly help students with exam study and applications for overseas study.
