I am currently working as a post-doc in the NSERC-funded DesignLIFES project. I investigate various biogeophysical and biogeochemical aspects of green roofs. This project is an excellent augmentation of my Ph.D. work that allows me to use similar tools and techniques that I used in my Ph.D. work to solve problems in a different ecosystem. I also study biochar as a potential climate change mitigation tool.

I partially designed and taught the Conservation of Tropical and Subtropical Forests course. It is an undergraduate course with a class size of ~210. I worked with six TAs and included multiple means of assessments to ensure an accessible learning environment. Part of the course fell within the COVID-19 pandemic, and I tackled the transition gracefully. Empathy and care were my core teaching philosophy during this difficult time.

For the first time in the mixed-wood boreal forest, I investigated important bio-geophysical and bio-geochemical aspects that helped shape climate-smart boreal forest management. Alongside, I also developed some low-cost devices to monitor microclimate in my study sites. These instruments worked equally well to their commercial counterparts.

The Chinese proverb — teachers open the door, you (students) must enter by yourself — succinctly encapsulates my learner-centric teaching philosophy. I designed and taught four undergraduate and graduate courses involving various assessment techniques, including assignments, fieldwork, group works, and final examinations. I am one of the few faculty members who pioneered (revolutionized) EdTech in this university in the face of extreme resistance against new technologies. I am passionate about Open Educational Resources and introduced several such resources (e.g., R - statistical computing environment) in my teaching and research. Over the course of my career here, I supervised ~30 undergraduate and graduate research projects and published several articles in peer-reviewed journals. Show less
