- Ecological evaluation of Abbeyleix Bog which confirmed the presence of critical raised bog flora and fauna, several Red List and new species for Laois county and a total of over 500 species (conservation confirmed May 2009). Now to be managed as a joint community conservation project between Bord na Mόna, NPWS, Laois County Council and the Abbeyleix Community. - Completion of PhD and 4 scientific papers including "Paper of the Year 1993" from the leading European instrumentation journal Measurement Science and Technology (IOP Publishing, Bristol). - General Secretary of International Tyndall School, a series of four international conferences on environmental sciences in Carlow. Received a Ministry of the Environment "Environmental Awareness Award" (1993).
