Product Application Engineer (Intern)
-
Apr 2015 - Sep 2015
Working as a PAE (Product Application Engineer) within the CSIG Marketing team at Intel Shannon. My main project was to develop OpenStack on-premise private cloud solution for the team. Work consisted of configuring the hardware using a number of Intel servers and networking them together. Installing OpenStack cloud software onto the servers and configuring OpenStack to run individual components (Compute, Storage, Networking, Orchestration) on individual servers. Won the first Intel Shannon STEM competition which was a team competition for all the Intel Shannon Interns. My team was tasked with building a prototype smart gym system utilising Intel microcontrollers. This was a fantastic experience working with very talented interns to achieve a common goal and building a very cool smart gym prototype which allowed our team win the competition. Worked on numerous community volunteering projects including DIY and litter cleaning. Got to work with Intel employees out side my team which helped grow my network with in the company. Show less

Research Internship
-
Jun 2014 - Sep 2014
During my internship I researched and developed a solution for real time decision making over ad-hoc wireless networks using Intel Galileo microcontrollers. The main goals of the research project was to prove that IOT devices could demonstrate the principals of wireless sensing, communication, coordination and actuation. Constructed a wireless test bed using Intel Galileo microcontrollers and configured the devices to communicate over an ad-hoc wireless network. Extended the microcontrollers with sound sensors and LED’s. Sound sensors took input from the environment and LED’s were used to show the conclusion of decision making process. Coded a Python coordinated protocol to run on each device so that when a device hears a sound it can initiate the process in which each device will broadcast its sound level. When all devices had broadcast their sound level, each device could then decide who had the highest amplitude. Actuated the results by turning on a green LED on the winning device. Wrote a research paper on my research and findings and presentation to Insight researchers in UCC and DCU. Created Insights Center for Data Analytics football team with fellow researchers and post-docs and entered and won the MidNight Cup 2015. The MidNight Cup is a football tournament played at midnight and held in UCC annually to raise funds for Cancer Research. Show less
