Grow Inspires is an IoEE accredited academyWe empower the socially disadvantaged through enterprise, coaching clients to grow real businesses rather than just learning about it. Facilitated learning through practical experience empowers far more effective skills development leading to more impact on sustainable poverty alleviation than traditional training or loans on their own. Phoenix develops motivated ex-offenders and long term unemployed into confident and capable business people, while our Kickstart Gateway is securing thousands of new roles for the unemployed among hundreds of SMEs, bringing huge benefits to both sides of the relationship.Any surplus from our trading activities supports the development of pioneering models of economic empowerment. We are pleased to partner with VSO Knowledge Exchange, Bristol University, Rolls-Royce and Love Entrepreneurs and are grateful for the support of the National Lottery, Alan Lane Foundation and others.

Innovation is often perceived as rocket science or some abstract thing that has no relevance to "normal" businesses. I correct this perception by helping SME clients achieve more by thinking differently. The result is more money for less effort. Real examples include:- doubling profits in a year by focussing on different partners- quadrupling sales in 6 months by finding a consistent market engagement approach- Adopting cloud based automation for a field service business- tripling prices by finding the right niche- extra revenue and happier customers for the same work though value mappingMy clients are clever people, but are often too close to the "coal face" to spot better opportunities. Many are surprised by how easily they implemented a step change in business performance by doing simple things that were only obvious in hindsight. For really innovative clients, I also offer a service to help them find grants and benefit from the tax breaks for R&D. As a Xero Certified Partner, I help businesses automate their finances to gain the insight to better target their efforts and facilitate claiming tax breaks.

Grow Movement provides education and skills transfer to micro entrepreneurs in East Africa from business professionals in over 50 developed economies using digital technology. Each project costs ~£500 and typically creates more than 2 new jobs - a highly cost effective way to help African Entrepreneurs help themselves and their countries out of poverty. As chairman I have been focusing the Grow Movement business model. The capability to inspire clients to change their ways of working to really grow their business is surprisingly rare - many educational programs deliver very little impact. Our challenge has been to amplify the insights we have gained along the way so that we can deliver more of it using the few resources we have.I have led a partnership with London Business School to verify the effectiveness of our model, the development of a new technology platform to support growth and harvest the insights from our program and an efficiency program that has cut costs by 25%. We started over 600 projects in Uganda in the second half of 2015 - more than the previous 5 years combined. Our vision is to educate Africa out of poverty by 2030 through a highly evolved and effective program of entrepreneur empowerment and by partnering with organisations that share our vision so that we can pool resources. My ambition is to move Grow Movement away from dependency on grants and donors as I believe that the charity model is broken. I believe that we can achieve far more with social ventures like Grow Inspires. You can read more about my thoughts on my Business Fights Poverty Blog.
