Mark is an outstanding campaigner, fundraiser and strategist. I have known Mark personally for over 25 years, and rate him as one of the most principled, and level headed people I know, with a strong streak of creativity thrown in. He is a pragmatic idealist, with an excellent eye for an opportunity which was why it was easy to work with my colleagues at Planet Wheeler Foundation to recommend the organisation he lead, Environment Victoria, for significant funding. Mark deserves his reputation as a well respected thought leader in the area of climate campaigning; he is always well informed and nuanced in his professional opinions, and able to communicate effectively to a wide range of stakeholders.

Energy and Water Ombudsman (Victoria) is a company limited by guarantee. The company’s objective is to independently and efficiently resolve disputes between customers and energy and water service providers in Victoria, with the further aim of reducing the occurrence of disputes. To meet this objective, it has set up a dispute resolution scheme and selected an Ombudsman who has authority under the Charter to receive, investigate and facilitate the resolution of complaints. The Sunrise Project is an Australian-born environmental campaigning and grantmaking organisation now with a global team and an oversized impact. Driven by a passion to solve the climate crisis, we are a team of experienced campaigners, analysts and communications professionals who work behind the scenes to support social movements to shift our economy beyond fossil fuels. We provide analysis, strategy support and funding to a wide range of community organisations with the aim of protecting the environment and keeping carbon in the ground. My role includes overseeing Sunrise's 3 Australian energy programs, as well as our legal and research programs. Show less

In 2019 I enjoyed working with a handful of not-for-profits and purpose-focused organisations helping CEO's, Boards and senior staff to hone their organisational strategy, governance, advocacy and resourcing. I worked on projects with The Push Inc, Australian Environmental Grantmakers Network, Environment Victoria, Climate Action Network of Australia and Solar Citizens among others. Post 2019 I am open to small, short-term for-purpose consultancies. The Australian Council of Trade Unions is the peak body for Australian unions, made up of 38 affiliated unions who together represent about 1.8 million workers and their families. As Senior Policy Advisor I worked with the ACTU President, Executive and across Australian and global unions to develop a shared program and policy agenda to ensure workers are driving and benefitting from climate change responses. Environment Victoria is one of Australia’s leading non-profit environment groups working to safeguard our environment and the future.I was privileged to lead the organisation for nearly 5 years, working with a great team to deliver inspiring and impactful campaigns and communications, and to complete the organisation's transition from reliance on government funding to being 100% funded by individual and philanthropic supporters.Highlights included helping rebuild Victoria's climate and renewable energy leadership credentials, securing the closure of Hazelwood and a massive transition package for the Latrobe Valley community, improving mine site rehabilitation plans and bonds in the Latrobe Valley, and building a supporter base of 150,000 Victorians who we worked with to deliver results for the environment at state elections. Worked as co-Director with Kirsten Blair. Led the Centre's ultimately successful work with traditional owners to stop the Jabiluka uranium mine from proceeding in Kakadu, and prevented large scale landclearing in the Daly Basin and other regions. Successfully campaigned for the establishment of an NT Environment Protection Authority. Grew the organisation from one paid positions to 5 paid positions by the time I finished.
