    • ELSA Summer Law School - Dispute Resolution
      • Jul 2019 - Aug 2019

I was selected as a participant for this ELSA Law School, which involved workshops - from WilmerHale, Baker McKenzie, PFKA, Knoetzl, and Freshfields - centered on mediation, negotiation, arbitration, and litigation. I also had the opportunity to attend a panel discussion and VIAC lecture. This experience provided an educational and engaging insight into the forms of dispute resolution, a subject I am highly interested in as a career path, as well as working alongside like-minded students from all over Europe. NCS provides a part-residential experience, with 30-60 hours committed to a local community project, to enable young people to build skills for both work and life, take on new challenges and make new friends. I had the opportunity to lead a group of young people in raising awareness and creating a mural for the amazing organisation Sebastian's Action Trust, which helps to provide respite for families of children battling life-limiting illnesses. It was a great experience to return to this role with the learning I gained from working as a Senior Mentor for NCS in 2018. Show less

In this role, I led a group of young people in raising awareness of recycling and environmental issues relating to excess paint, through The Green Machine (Enterprise). This local community interest company provides volunteer and employment opportunities to disabled and disadvantaged people since 2009. This role allowed me to improve my leadership and team-management skills. Additionally, due to the part-residential nature of the role, I was in a position to exercise my communication and decision-making skills, while working among a team of passionate Mentors and enthusiastic young people. This day involved shadowing a Junior Barrister at the Old Bailey, sitting in on the cross-examination of a murder trial with multiple defendants. This experience was invaluable and gave me an insight into the logistics of advocacy in court as a Criminal Barrister.
