Started in 1954, The Coon Rapids Lions Club has been a vital part of the City and surrounding area. The Coon Rapids Lions Club has been serving this area longer than any other service organization in the community and five years prior to the incorporation of the City of Coon Rapids. We, the Lions, enjoy working to better the lives and well-being of all people in our community through the education and research programs the Lions sponsor for sight, hearing and diabetes. Lions also distribute glasses and fund medical programs for the prevention and relief of river blindness and raise funds for disaster relieve around the world. Locally, Coon Rapids Lions volunteer at, and raise funds for, local organizations such as the ACBC Emergency Food Shelf, Alexandra House Women's Shelter and Stepping Stone Homeless Shelter, the Mercy Hospital Wellness Van, Can-Do Canines and Feed My Starving Children. The Lions motto is “We Serve”. Our mission statement is “To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions Clubs”. The Minnesota Lions Vision Foundation has been working to help the blind and visually impaired since 1960. Through our support of the Minnesota Lions Eye Bank, our collaboration with the University of Minnesota’s Department of Ophthalmology, and our work collecting and distributing used eyeglasses, the Foundation helps countless people every day. The Foundation is affiliated with Lions Clubs International, the largest service club organization in the world, having 45,000 clubs and 1.35 million members worldwide. Founded in 1917, Lions Clubs International is best known for fighting blindness. In addition to helping in their communities, Lions members conduct vision screenings, equip hospitals and clinics, distribute medicine, and raise awareness of eye disease. Lions have a mission to provide vision for all, and the Minnesota Lions Vision Foundation is proud to work hand-in-hand with Lions Clubs International. I joined the Board of Directors as a representative of District 5M-7 in July of 2014. I became Public Relations Committee chair in July of 2015. Assumed the role of Chair of the Board of Directors in July of 2016. Show less
