• Worked on a research project led by Dr. Hersh of SLC and Dr. Collins of Bard College for a second summer• Traveled to Kansas to exhume all 100k+ seeds buried the previous summer throughout the KU field site, troubleshoot existing moisture sensor network, and collect soil samples• Helped surface sterilize seeds, culture fungi from seeds, reculture and transfer fungi as needed, and manage collection of thousands of growing cultures, in addition to preparing fungal samples for long-term storage and sequencing• Developed a searchable photo database of 4000+ images of fungal cultures grown over the summer and assisted in the digitization of physical paperwork

• Participated in a research project led by Dr. Michelle Hersh of Sarah Lawrence College and Dr. Cathy Collins of Bard College examining the relationships between plant diversity, pathogen pressures, and fragmented landscapes• Learned how to identify the plant species growing at the field site and estimate cover over a 1x1m area; part of a team that completed 600 vegetation surveys in large and small fragments• Received training in staining and microscopy techniques required to identify arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in roots; collected and sorted soil samples used in the staining• Assisted in the counting of 110,000 seeds, analyzed potential problems and solutions with supervisors and fellow interns in lab and in the field, worked on the installation of a temperature and moisture sensor network
