• Participated in a research project led by Dr. Michelle Hersh of Sarah Lawrence College and Dr. Cathy Collins of Bard College examining the relationships between plant diversity, pathogen pressures, and fragmented landscapes• Learned how to identify the plant species growing at the field site and estimate cover over a 1x1m area; part of a team that completed 600 vegetation surveys in large and small fragments• Received training in staining and microscopy techniques required to identify arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in roots; collected and sorted soil samples used in the staining• Assisted in the counting of 110,000 seeds, analyzed potential problems and solutions with supervisors and fellow interns in lab and in the field, worked on the installation of a temperature and moisture sensor network
