Keith Richens – Founder and Managing Director of Cranage EMC Testing Limited. Keith’s working life began in 1970-74 as an engineering apprentice at the Atomic Energy Authority before moving on to becoming a design engineer at Ferranti and a systems engineer at British Aerospace. For 15 years he worked as a design consultant and electronics engineer for product manufacturers and developed the world’s first tamper-proof electronic safety switch for machine guarding whilst being employed as a Technical Director at EJA Engineering Ltd (Guardmaster), now part of Rockwell International. In 1992, Keith established a testing laboratory for electromagnetic compatibility and named it after a village called Cranage which is located at the centre of the RQZ (Radio Quiet Zone) of the giant radio telescope at Jodrell Bank in Cheshire. Since that time Keith has been involved with the measurement of electromagnetic fields and assisting manufacturers develop their products for EMC and product safety. In 2002 he was registered with the Engineering Council (IET) as a Chartered Engineer.
