My partner and I started Taken North Podcast as a way to learn more about the small Arctic town of Longyearbyen, establish understanding and closeness with the local community, and encourage small business and peoples with ideas to know their neighbours. The project was pursued in our spare time and we achieved 16 episodes, this allowed me to find balance with my time management skills. My responsibilities were to approach and maintain guest relations, conduct the main interview, edit and produce each episode, and present written content for our different platforms. The goal is to expand and to gradually add visual content and eventually start our own media company, which now leaves us to push us to market our brand on social media and locally in the region. During the time with Taken North Podcast, we established a relationship with local businesses and collaborated several times with Artica Svalbard, a foundation whose goal is to enable thinking, discussions, and projects in global thought and life in the Arctic. As Bar Manager at Huset Restaurant, I enjoyed the responsibilities of service for weekly dinner services in the bistro, and the bar services during the weekend. My duties allowed me to create change within the cafe and the nightclub, such as, specific duties for staff, designing the nightclub atmosphere with a modern mood. I had the ability to grow within fine dining services, a key which pushed me into a more professional role. As a bartender at The Globe Irish Bar I was responsible with general bar duties, serving guests in a sports bar environment, and enduring the hardships of the World Cup. My duties also included morning and weekend services as a trained barista, spending the dinner service working behind the bar. The Globe Irish Bar enabled me to gained a knowledge of a variety of craft beers, scotch, and whiskey. I introduced a shooter and cocktail menu, using promotional tactics, to produce recurring customers. My time at Heartland Hotel was cut short due to Visa restrictions.
