I've worked alongside John for close to two years. During this time, I have grown to appreciate that John's passion and skill for marketing spans far deeper than the traditional marketing mindset, of promoting products and services. John has the gift of looking at businesses challenges with another lens, ultimately one which puts the customer at the forefront. That's one of the things that's so remarkable about John. He demonstrates not only a mastery of his core role, but also an ability to take on the psyche of a target audience and tap into their behaviours and needs, ultimately to achieve greater outcomes for the business. This rare mix of knowledge and empathy sets a great example for the rest of the team, and explains why everyone loves working with John-- no matter where they fall on the org chart. I worked with John for five years and am grateful for the opportunity. I owe a great deal of my current marketing ideals to our ongoing dialogue of marketing strategy, consumer behaviour and all manner of psychology (from prospective members to leaders of people). When you meet John, you quickly realise he's not cut from the same cloth as marketers who've gone before him. Not only is he highly intelligent and qualified for any marketing role, he's also highly intuitive and is quick to isolate a person's motivation and respond accordingly. As a leader he is generous with his time and intellect nurturing a positive and safe environment for real creativity. Always good for a witty metaphor to explain a strategic principle to stakeholders, we've shared many laughs in the face of accolades and challenges. If you get a chance to work with John Devaney, do not pass it up! I guarantee you will not find a more generous or intelligent marketing professional in Brisbane and possibly the Southern Hemisphere.
