My position at Sainsbury’s allowed me to utilise the skills I had established in previous job roles and use them to the best of my advantage. Having previously worked in similar customer service environments, I was able to perform what was required of me to a high standard. I dealt with countless customers and interacted with people of all ages. I worked mainly in the checkout sector, where I was required to assist customers with their groceries amongst other purchases. I worked briefly as an account manager for On-Trade Progress, a business to business magazine specialising in the hospitality sector. I spoke to multiple businesses on a daily basis and provided advertising positions within the magazine. The job mainly involved speaking to clients on the phone however building and maintaining relationships online was as important. In March 2015 I began employment as a Sales Advisor for Saga plc selling both home and motor insurance. Throughout this time, it was my responsibility to deal with thousands of customers old and new to understand their needs and offer appropriate insurance policies. I have a commercial understanding of what is expected in a sales environment, how to strive towards hitting daily targets and how reward schemes can act as an incentive. During my time with the company I excelled in a range of activities. Firstly, after exiting the induction training, I was rewarded with having the highest revenue per hour on the entire sales floor. I achieved this distinction in six of my initial seven months and remain very proud of this achievement. In my three years with the company, I developed from a Level 1 Sales Advisor to a Level 3 Sales Advisor in recognition of achieving sales targets consistently over extended periods of time. I believe that my time with Saga has enabled me to mature professionally and engage with people of all ages. I am able to overcome objections and deal with both hesitancy and impoliteness. I attribute this to the significant enhancement of both my questioning and listening skills. I appreciate that the effective use of listening skills provides a better understanding of the customer requirement and an easier route to providing an appropriate product or solution. After achieving several promotions and breaking sales records I was then responsible for the mentoring of new colleagues. My ability to build rapport and empathy was crucial in this new role. Straight out of education I spent 17 months working in Hersden for Deepwater EU Ltd, a worldwide company that specialises in the maintenance and prevention of corrosion in pipe supports. The business is active worldwide, particularly offshore. During my time with the company I developed many skills including how to talk in a formal, business manner both on the phone and in business meetings and the importance of maintaining a clean, tidy and professional workplace. I completed long shifts of manual work involved assembling metal pipe supports, nuts, bolts, washers and plastics materials. I acquired 3 course completions in this time, First Aid at work, Fire and Safety Awareness and Manual Handling in the work place. I learnt how to engage effectively with colleagues, the importance professional self-awareness and how to support members of the senior management team. I developed my operational knowledge of computing, using Microsoft programmes such as Word, Outlook and Excel. Overall the experience was one that I remember fondly. Show less
