Benelect is a third-party-administrator for major health insurance carriers. This is an engineering contract assignment in Visalia Ca. The position included the implementation of software modifications to the company’s web-based group health insurance quoting system. The modifications included support for the ‘Affordable Health Care Act’ and recent changes in carrier plans. Additional modifications have enhanced user interaction, overall performance and improved reporting functionality. The position also included a complete redesign of the company’s extranet application which provides numerous sales reports and applications to staff members. The reports are utilized by in house and field representatives to coordinate and track insurance agent/agency activities related to employer groups located throughout the western United States. The on-line reports link agent, agencies and employer group locations and ties geo-coded routing information to interactive maps via the Microsoft Bing Map API. According to the company’s field sales personnel, the Bing Map interface has increased productivity by allowing clients to be located more efficiently. The company’s field representatives are supplied with I-Pads so, the extranet application was developed to provide mobile computing support. This was partly accomplished by utilizing the latest edition of Developer Express controls (DXV2) which provide Touch Computing compatibility. Additional activities have included coalescing disparate data from various systems such as exchange server, production system, insurance quoting system and customer tracking systems. These aggregates are related and unified as enumerable business objects via exchange web services calls and LINQ database queries. The resulting information is utilized as data sources for grids, reports and screens while providing in-house and field personal with a real-time global-view of operations and marketing opportunities. This is an engineering contract assignment in Delano Ca. The client, Pandol Brothers, is a major producer, and domestic/export supplier of grapes and other produce. The project is scheduled for completion in December of 2010. The project included the development of a windows application (sales dashboard) and a web-based application (management portal). The windows application (sales dashboard) is used for rapid sales order entry. The web-based application (management portal) is used for order/invoice/logistics and management processes. Both of these applications reference the same ‘business logic class project’ which includes database persistence functionality and all supporting business process related methods. The business logic layer also exposes business objects which are utilized throughout the system. The web-based application project references a ‘reports class project’ which provides both standard and dynamic reports such as sales orders, invoices, shipping manifests, confirmations, etcetera. Reports can be created using a windows based GUI designer and then uploaded to the web-project using the reports administrator page. Reports can be viewed directly from the web application and also the windows application via an exposed web service of the web-based application. The applications were created using Visual Studio 2008, Developer Express and the ADO.NET Entity Framework for IBM DB2/AS400 (IBM Database Add-in for Visual Studio). Show less
