As an instructor, my responsibilities not only included teaching technical courses, but also required short-term consulting assignments to provide a means of keeping my technical abilities current and viable. As an instructor I also performed course development and I was the Java curriculum manager. During my last 18 months I was heavily involved in providing Java training and consulting, teaching introductory and advanced Java courses. The introductory course addressed Java syntax and coding structures for Java applications and applets. The advanced course teaches GUI building using AWT and Swing components, multi-threading programming techniques, Java beans, serialization of objects, as well as other topics. I was a member of a project team to implement an Object-Oriented application as a component of the Open Federal Financial Systems (OFFS) AMS product in a Smalltalk/VisualWorks environment. This project produced a prototype system to maintain an employee database and track employee project assignments (projected and actual hours) on a Windows platform using Sybase for data storage. For First Data Resources, my role was to support the introduction of client/server technologies for the application development team by providing initial training followed by on-site support to insure optimum results. Additional support was given to introduce mainframe application development on the personal workstation using the MicroFocus COBOL workbench. For the AMS Corporate Training Center, I assisted in the design, development, and delivery of several technical courses in the summer training program for new-hires. Show less
