As Case Manager, I Coordinated the Holiday Gift Program called "Befriend-A-Family" for Catholic Charities St. Sabina. There were three gift giveaway events before Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. I was in charge of interviewing 65 families to complete wish lists for each individual. I sent invitations to families for all three events and made sure each client brought the necessary documents to receive gifts. The most fun part was giving each gift to the individual families. A large part of my job as Case Manager was meeting with walk-in clients seeking food or clothing assistance. I typically met with 30 clients a day at the food pantry, and 15 for clothing assistance. I maintained a robust database of client information and visitation was a priority in my job. A project I lead, that I really enjoyed was selecting families to participate in Catholic Charities' Celebration of Giving Christmas Gift Giveaway program. I read previous client cases and interviewed and selected 16 families who needed assistance in holiday gifts. When gifts arrived at our office I called each client and coordinated a time for them to come in to pick them up. Show less

Amate House is a year-long leadership and social justice development program in Chicago. It pairs a full-time service job that works with clients experiencing poverty, racism and other social ills with programming that explores the history and impact of systemic injustice. In this program, I lived with 10 other fellows on a limited household budget. We were provided with $300 a week for groceries. In order to live in intentional solidarity with the poor of Chicago, I received a limited disposable income of $100 a month. Show less
