During my work experience with the Coram legal sector I picked up a vast array of skills, regarding their goal of protecting the rights of children internationally. This included making organograms for government systems, in addition to collating relevant legislation as part of their projects on Jordan and Sierra Leone, which I gathered preliminary research for. I also observed meetings and calls, in addition to summarising key legal documents such as TORs as well. Having conversed with several members of the team, such as research officers and data analysts, I also gained invaluable insight into what their specific roles entailed. Show less

During my virtual work experience at Reed Smith, I was exposed to the various legal sectors that the firm specialised in regarding transportation, energy, media, financial services and healthcare. There were several useful talks that I attended, most notably a mixed panel discussion with lawyers and the businesses they work with. Key discussions provided insight into the avenues into a career in law, in addition to the variety of work that they do. Their aims of supporting the recruitment, retention and advancement of women as part of their Women's Initiative Network was something that greatly interested me as well. Show less

This lecture by Thomas Grant KC provided insight into several current legal issues. This included the controversial parliamentary prorogation case Miller (No.2), giving rise to the question of the politics of the judiciary. The Government's promise to “update the Human Rights Act” and review the “relationship between the government, parliament and the courts” was another key area touched upon in this seminar, emphasising the dangers of governmental interference in the legal sector.
