    • Inclusion and Student Voice Officer
      • May 2022 - Present

Following my work on Prism, as Student Council Chairperson, additional advocacy and an application process, I was appointed by senior leadership as Burgess Hill Girls’ first Inclusion and Student Voice Officer. This fully engaged me within the school community as a liaison between student and faculty perspectives, amplifying and conducting communication, as well as organising and leading events and assemblies for various diversity and inclusion focus events. Notable initiatives include those for LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent students (with an intersectional lens supporting other areas of student identity and experience). Show less

After a considerable application, testing and interview process, I was offered the opportunity to spend eight fascinating days in LMH, Oxford on a course dedicated to analysing the most pressing global problems. We engaged with subjects including climate change, nuclear threat, global health and poverty, biorisk, artificial intelligence, education and animal welfare. We also researched and evaluated the efficacy of interventions, as well as learning about and holding productive disagreements and debates. Show less

      • Jul 2022 - Jul 2022

Spending a week working in Maria Caulfield MP’s Constituency Office was a greatly enriching experience and a fascinating one to have been invited to. Between writing letters to constituents and local organisations, attending meetings, visiting constituents and speaking to them on their concerns, as well as engaging with local events and news and cross-referencing casework communications through an online system, there was so much to learn and to think further on, allowing a far deeper understanding of the mechanisms and efforts behind our representative democracy. I gained much experience in (both formal written and verbal) communication, collaboration and political awareness while working to listen to and understand others to produce efficacious work. Additionally, throughout the week I had the opportunity of speaking to the Minister for Health on various political subjects and the insights gained were invaluable. Show less

    • Oxford Schools’ Debating Competition
      • Mar 2022 - Mar 2022

Competing in the finals of Oxford schools debating was such an brilliant experience and opportunity to learn from so many others. Debating was, as always, great and we managed to come first in our last round (I coming as first speaker), after debating a motion on citizen journalism (with others surrounding such topics as UBIs and social media) - overall coming 11th out of the 30 novice teams. I was also delighted to be 28th, ahead of 60%, of the 72 novice speakers, and ahead of 25% of all the finalist speakers, gaining 286 of the possible 400 speaker points. As our first time in the Oxford schools competition, and in the finals as new to BP debate, we were so pleased to have this experience and with our results - beyond this, it was wonderful to hear the other speakers and to consider so many ideas, perspectives and arguments. • Sep 2021 - Sep 2021

I am so grateful for the opportunity to have had such a brilliant and academically exciting time debating such topics as the implications of the justice system, minority representation in media and public health. It was a great introduction to the British Parliamentary format. My partner and I were able to get to the grand (open) final as one of the top four teams, the only novice pair to do so (we would have broken first into the novice final). Additionally, I was able to achieve an individual speaker prize in the open competition (third place) and first place individual speaker in the novice category. Show less

This engaging and highly practical 10-day programme covered multiple branches of the law, allowing me to advocate (and win) in a human rights mock trial at the Supreme Court, develop experience and strategy in corporate negotiation, take an active role throughout the process of a criminal trial, successfully debate the place of legal tech in the sector and look at the importance of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (discerning, analysing and presenting potential issues in client propositions). These were incredible, comprehension-advancing experiences and I greatly enjoyed my time taking on roles of dual leadership and guidance within my group. It also gave me the opportunity to tour legal London and develop professional and motivational skills through networking. Show less

I am so grateful for having been awarded a scholarship allowing me to spend two weeks at Cambridge’s Jesus College, learning about a variety of legal branches including Constitutional, Criminal, Tort, Human Rights, International, EU and Technology Law. We had frequent opportunities to participate in challenging mock trials and completed independent projects analysing legal problems, as informed and demonstrated by case studies. My essay asked whether there is a legal solution to the tolerance paradox, looking at the case of Forstater v. CGD which was a fascinating process of thought. It was a truly incredible programme and the skills of reasoning, processing and research, and the knowledge I’ve gained will stay with me throughout my career. We also looked at how to achieve successful and meaningful advocacy. Over the course, we: - Primarily looked at legal challenges from a variety of perspectives, especially those of diversity, inclusion, belonging and equity - Learned about public speaking strategies and how these are vital in presentation situations - Closely focused on self awareness Show less
