I founded Think Place in 2006, a spatial design and planning practice specialising in urban strategies, urban design, infrastructure and landscape. The practice works internationally, engaging in urban issues at a range of scales, for the public sector, private sector and NGOs with a focus on issues that impact society and the environment including climate change, biodiversity, diversity and social inclusion, re-use and re-imagining of historical contexts, community engagement and regeneration. Over the last decade or so, Think Place has had a positive impact on projects as diverse as the Chelsea Barracks redevelopment in London, supermarkets in sensitive locations in the Home Counties, positioning of a Metro Station in Dublin and the conceptual plan for a new eco-city in China. The East Midlands Design Review Panel is run by OPUN (the Architecture Centre in the East Midlands): a charity that promotes good design practice. It works across the East Midlands with the aim of improving the quality of new and restored places for the communities that live and work in them. OPUN runs a Design Council Cabe-affiliated Design Review Panel which comprises a peer group of experts chosen to appraise schemes with the developer and often the local authority present. I was selected to join the Panel in 2009. Show less

As Urban Design Director at Farrells I was privileged to work closely with Terry on many of his visions that have shaped the way London is now perceived: Marylebone-Euston Road Vision, Euston Road Underpass Project, The Nash Ramblas Vision, the Thames Gateway Vision, ‘Connecting London’ and ‘Walking London’. I continued my long association with Paddington Basin with a number of masterplans including The Paddington Health Campus: an audacious public-private initiative that, had it come off, would have been the largest health campus in Europe. The integration of large-scale health campuses into sensitive contexts was a theme of my work at Farrells where I also prepared masterplans for The Royal London and The Barts Hospitals. Show less

I regard myself as very fortunate to have joined Grimshaw when the International Terminal at Waterloo was still at the design stage, and to see the project through to completion including 18 months as site architect. The project won the Mies Van der Rohe Prize for the best building in Europe in 1994 and began a long association I enjoyed with transport buildings: the redevelopment of Manchester Airport Terminal 1 (described by Building Magazine as ‘the most complex construction project in the UK’); Masterplans for Paddington Station and Highbury and Islington Station, Miami Intermodal Centre, Orlando South Terminal and turning full circle in 1997, a masterplan for Waterloo Domestic Station. Another long association began here. In 2000 I led a masterplan for Ballymun Business and Technology Park, the first phase of which (0.5M sqft) was granted planning permission. I have been a frequent visitor to Ireland ever since and think place had an office there for a couple of years. Show less
