Mar 2004 - Jan 2008
Accountabilities:- I had the lead responsibility for in-house development, testing and rollout of automated genetic analysis systems. This involved the design and implementation of system definitions for high throughput leukaemia and breast tumour screening. It was also my sole responsibility to author test scripts and also protocols and technical manuals for use by other staff members. Once testing had been completed I was responsible for training members of staff in the use of the systems with relation to their areas of work. I was also involved in Beta testing of the software product. I used the systems for a research project into the benefits of genetic analysis over pathological analysis of aggressive breast cancer tumours. I performed all the sample analysis and statistical analysis. I authored a paper which was published in J Clin Pathol. 2005 Jul;58(7):710-4. This published work subsequently changed the way that breast cancer samples are tested within the regions’ hospitals, for possible treatment with the drug Herceptin. I also presented this work at two international conferences. I was also responsible for performing and producing several audits within the department. My role also included extensive laboratory work including preparation of various body tissue samples. I was also required to analyse cytogenetic samples of leukaemia patients or patients with suspected genetic disorders. I was then required to provide detailed reports to be sent to consultants to be used for diagnosis. Show less
