The Naturopathic Medical Student Association (NMSA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit that represents naturopathic medical students across North America. As the President Elect of the Bastyr University California Chapter, I work closely with an amazing local team and international board to advocate for the legislative rights of practitioners of our medicine, to provide new educational and experiential opportunities for students, to foster inter-professional relationships, to encourage and help new students, and to enact changes at my school and in the profession that bring us closer to realizing our mission. As a SMCHS volleyball camp coach, it is my job to manage registration of campers. I interact with and coach campers in technique and game strategy. My favorite part is jumping in to play the games with them at the end of each day. I use positive message framing to deliver constructive feedback. I had the opportunity to shadow Dr. Kaisa Lopes, PhD, LAc. I interacted with patients prior to and during their acupuncture treatments. I practiced listening to patient histories and symptoms in order to make a diagnosis. I created informational pamphlets to help patients understand how Chinese medicine works and how it could help their ailments. I had the opportunity to shadow Dr. Kaisa Lopes, PhD, LAc.
