On average, the MMHC team supervises 120-140 defendants with a serious mental diagnosis, who have committed a county ordinance violation. The goal of the program is to reduce the number of defendants entering the correctional system and improve the defendant’s chances of being a part of the community. The intern duties were to open MMHC cases by summarizing police reports, read policies and procedures. Contact clients for multiple purposes: to ensure the client knows his/her next court date, to learn of the client’s status, and to answer any client questions. As a side project for MMHC I identify and catalog client re-arrest history in an Excel sheet. An important element is to collaborate with MMHC team and attend weekly staff meetings. Attended MMHC, confined, and traditional court sessions to survey defendant responses for initial assessments and gather defendant information. Explain and answer questions relating to MMHC policies, conditions, and procedures. For my own graduation project, I collected and analyzed MMHC data regarding participant retention, compliance, and sanctions. Show less
