We exist to partner with parents and community to support students in becoming contributing citizens by expanding knowledge and scholarship and creating learning environments that promote academic excellence. Geography and Description The Festus R-VI School District serves a geographical area of approximately 36 square miles in east central Jefferson County. The district is located in the city of Festus, which has a population of 11,602. The district is comprised of one elementary school (grades K-3), one intermediate school (grades 4-6), one middle school (grades 7-8), and one high school (grades 9-12). History On June 7, 1949, school consolidation was approved by voters in Jefferson County Missouri. The first Board of Education meeting as Reorganized School District R-VI was held on June 30, 1949. The R-VI district is composed of the former districts of Hematite, Haverstick, Bailey, Festus (District #48), and portions of the Douglass, McNutt, and Horine districts. Festus started its first high school in 1901 as a two-year high school. The first graduating class of 1902 was composed of nine girls and one boy. This two-year high school continued until the 1913-14 school year when Festus had a three-year high school for one year. The first four-year class graduated at the end of the 1914-15 school year.
