      Finally, at the end of the marketing / sales cycle is fulfillment. This is the last piece of the long chain spanning everything from imagining a strategy and creative direction, all the way to putting the final product in the hands of a customer. I took this position in part because I wanted to understand this final link in the chain, and in part because I believe that all the technological tools that make marketing possible must all be brought together here, on the packing floor, making sure that customers get the product they were sold on by everything that's come before. It's also a crucial step because here is where the actionable intelligence resides, where purchasing habits are ultimately confirmed, having been converted into trackable sales. Business intelligence systems and analytics created at this post-order stage, linked with the systems at the creative or strategic stage are the ultimate source of knowledge and understanding of a customer, not just along broad segments, but individually. I'm looking forward to what I consider to be the final challenge in "The Story of Marketing"

      Varibase is a highly technological Relational Marketing Agency. As Director of Technology, my responsibilities included ensuring that the IT infrastructure is solid, including networks, encryption systems and variable data production systems. I was now able to understand data-based marketing strategy, write variable copy, analyze data, segmentation and profiling, social media, program variable applications, design, install and manage the systems that operate the variable applications, create event-driven marketing responses and, thanks to my previous experience, perform any data management, printing, finishing, and postal preparation as well as variable email, web site programming and evaluate website ergonomics, all while constantly calculating ROI and response rates. I really believe that the future of marketing is relational and social, and understanding the entire chain from marketing strategy to delivery really helps me be perfectly confident throughout the whole process.
