Women in Law (WiL) is a student-led society that seeks to promote gender equality, and to inspire students through the achievements of women leaders in the legal sector. As the Board consists primarily of undergraduate students, I provided insight into how the society can provide more events and become a better resource for postgraduate students. Awarded the King's Experience Sanctuary Award in recognition of my role as Events Officer for KCL Student Action for Refugees (STAR) and volunteering with Love to Learn at Katherine Low Settlement. My work with STAR included planning, organising and leading the fundraising freshers' event 'Rave 4 Refugees', the mental health panel, and the day-long Annual Conference 'Who Are We? Refugees and Displaced Identities' with guest speakers from organisations such as MicroRainbow, Refugee Rights Europe and We Belong. KCLSU awarded KCL STAR as the winner of the 2020 KCLSU Accreditation Scheme, rewarding our student-led society with the highest achievement of the Gold Standard Badge. Citizens UK announced King’s College London as the UK’s first ‘Refugees Welcome University’, in recognition of its contribution to understanding and responding to the global issue of forced displacement and helping to realise the educational potential of refugees. STAR National also presented KCL STAR with the Gold Comet Award in recognition of the work we achieved for the charity organisation in 2019-2020. Show less
