Currently, I am working in the Protein Crystallography and Structural Immunology unit in Navarrabiomed under the direction of Dr. Jacinto López Sagaseta. The unit aims to investigate the molecular and structural bases that regulate the presentation and recognition of both foreign antigens, those coming from pathogens or tumors, and their own antigens (autoantigens) that are associated with autoimmune diseases. During these months, I gave support to the different projects of the unit learning: — Immunodection by ELISA — PCR and RT-PCR — Molecular cloning — Protein production in bacteria and insect cells — Protein purification with AKTA pure system and gravity — Protein crystallization with the sitting drop vapor diffusion system — Cell culture of human colorectal lines HT-29 and SW480, human glioblastoma U-87MG and human cervix C-33A Show less

I managed my own research project to carry out my Master's Thesis titled “Increased Activity of Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) Reduces the phosphorylation of receptors related to synaptic plasticity in Huntington’s Disease”. It was performed under the supervision of Dr. Francesc Xavier Xifró i Collsamata in the New Therapeutic Targets Group (Faculty of Medicine, Universitat de Girona). The main objective was to characterize the role of PTP1B in Huntington's disease and its effects on substrates related to synaptic plasticity and neuronal survival. As a result, I achieved several skills: — Detail-oriented and organizational skills acquired through accurately following SOPs — Initiative, autonomy, and ability to plan and organize work/time — Work under pressure, be flexible and adapt to changes Moreover, I improve different technical skills: — Development of expertise in cell culture and cell-based assays — Learning mouse sample handling techniques and enzymatic assays — Pharmacological treatment phosphatase inhibitors — Protein extraction — Optimization of 4 protein immunodetection by Western blot — Impactful scientific communication in my Master's Thesis defense, accomplishing a grade of 9.7/10 Show less

In the course of my degree, I carried out my Bachelor's Thesis in the New Therapeutic Targets Group (Faculty of Medicine, Universitat de Girona) titled “Study of the signaling involved in the protective effect of the Pituitary-Adenylate Cyclase-Activating Polypeptide (PACAP) against mutated huntingtin-induced toxicity”. It was performed under the direction of Dr. Francesc Xavier Xifró i Collsamata and Dr. María Inés Roldán Borassi from the Genetic Ichthyology Laboratory (Science Faculty, Universitat de Girona). The research project evaluated the protective effect of the neuropeptide PACAP against mutated huntingtin toxicity and tried to decipher some molecular mechanisms associated with this neuroprotection in Huntington's disease. As a result of being part of this project, I achieved several personal skills such as:— Creative resolution of problems and unforeseen event— Management and optimization of time through planning and organization— Teamwork, contributing to the development of specific and multidisciplinary projectsAnd also improve different technical skills:— Development of expertise in cell culture and cell-based assays— Pharmacological treatment with neuropeptide and kinase inhibitors— Protein extraction— Immunodetection by Western blot— Impactful scientific communication in my Bachelor's Thesis defense, accomplishing a grade of 9.0/10 Show less

During my undergraduate studies, I interned in the New Therapeutic Targets Research Group, specifically in the neuroscience field. I was actively contributing to the research line, which consisted of using neuropeptides and identifying their therapeutic targets for the treatment of Huntington's disease.Throughout my internship time, I learned how a research group functioned and operated in the day-to-day. Moreover, due to I was self-organized, a quick learner, and a resourceful person I accomplish to master the following techniques:— Cell culture and cell-based assays— Pharmacological treatment— Protein extraction— Immunodetection by Western blot Show less
