Overview

The Zoran Djindjic Foundation was established on December 15th 2003, after the tragic assassination of Zoran Djindjic, the first democratically elected Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia. The founders' intention was to preserve the legacy of Zoran Djindjic and to promote the values of a modern and democratic Serbia. The founding document lay down the basic goals of the Foundaton: the encouragement and development of scientific and research activities in fields which contribute to the progress of democratic relations and political culture in society, the organization of humanitarian and other activities connected with the promotion of democracy, democratic relations and political culture in society, as well as the encouragement of international exchange. Since 2004, the Zoran Djindjic Foundation, together with the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations (Ost-Ausschuss der Deutschen Wirtschaft) has been working on the Zoran Djindjic Internship Program of German Business, the aim of which is to give qualified young people the chance to gain vocational experience in some of the best-known German companies. From 2007 to 2011the Foundation organized in cooperation with the Austrian Development Cooperation a similar exchange program: Experiencing Europe: Serbian Young Professionals in Austria - Zoran Djindjic Internship Program. Another very important part of the Foundation's activities is the "Regional School of Political Philosophy Zoran Djindjic" funded by the Balkan Trust for Democracy and implemented in cooperation with the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade. Besides the internship programs and summer schools the Foundation has an emerging publishing activity in cooperation with National Library of Serbia.
