Overview

The Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association (ZELA) has established itself as a premier natural resource governance organisation in Zimbabwe. ZELA’s work has evolved from a sole focus on environmental rights to a broader natural resource governance agenda across different natural resources including land, water, wildlife and mineral resources. ZELA has become a critical node to all major discussions on natural resources governance particularly as it relates to extractives. Among the various initiatives the organisation works on, ZELA;  Led the establishment of the Publish What You Pay (PWYP)-Zimbabwe coalition and is the current host  Currently coordinates the global Kimberly Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) civil society coalition  Is the lead convenor of the Zimbabwe Alternative Mining Indaba and has played a key role in the convening of the Alternative Mining Indaba  Is one of the leading organisations on Business and Human Rights
