Overview

WHAT WE STAND FOR YAP’s vision is for a society that deeply values children & young people, and creates the conditions for them to thrive in childhood and life. YAP contributes to this vision by increasing young people’s influence and ability to shape their own lives and the society they will inherit. YAP’s work is to enable young people aged 7 – 15 years to say what ‘good’ looks like, and then to support institutions of society move towards that. OUR WORK WITH YOUNG PEOPLE We work in meaningful & consistent ways - with 7 – 15 year olds to identify & decide the parts of society that interact with their lives and need to be different - with 7 – 26 years olds to describe what ‘good’ looks like in these parts of society We work with them in ways that - values them as experts in their own lives, and in what needs to be different and ‘good’ - enables young people – in their own right and through partnerships with adults - to hold parts of society to account for the roles they play in their lives - holds YAP accountable to young people OUR WORK WITH INSTITUTIONS OF SOCIETY We work with governments, services and communities in collaborative and purposeful ways to - shift their structures, behaviours, power and resources towards what young people say is ‘good’ - better create the conditions for young people to thrive - demonstrate what it looks like to value children & young people We work with them in ways that - values their role in young people’s lives - values strong partnership & powerful coalitions as critical to achieving change. - constructively holds tension between increasing accountability and enabling learning & adaptation.
