Overview

An unprecedented global, multi-sectoral, industry leadership alliance for "Corporate Ocean Responsibility" The World Ocean Council (WOC) brings together the diverse ocean business community to collaborate on a shared vision of a healthy and productive ocean and its sustainable use and stewardship by responsible businesses. Companies worldwide are distinguishing themselves by joining the WOC, which brings together shipping, oil and gas, fisheries, aquaculture, tourism, offshore renewable energy, ports, dredging, submarine cables, ocean science, technology and data, as well as the maritime legal, financial and insurance communities, and others. WOC Members to date include 80+ leadership companies from a wide array of ocean industries. The WOC network includes 34,000+ ocean industry stakeholders around the world. Catalyzing industry leadership and collaboration in ocean sustainability, science and stewardship The WOC brings together ocean industries to address shared environmental concerns, more effectively engage in ocean policy and planning, and develop science-based solutions to cross-cutting environmental challenges that cannot be solved by one company or industry - all in support of responsible business, reduced risk, continued access, and sustainable development. Leadership companies of all sizes are distinguishing themselves by becoming WOC Members and call on others to join them. World Ocean Council initiatives: - Improve business understanding of and interaction with stakeholders, policy-makers, and policy fora, e.g. on the arctic, marine protected areas, ocean governance. - Catalyze industry collaboration in finding practical solutions to cross-sectoral, pre-competitive issues. - Convene cross-sectoral ocean industry events and facilitate dialogue and information sharing to address inter-industry conflicts in ocean use. - Develop collective industry support for improved ocean science, data collection and risk assessment.
