World Endoscopy Organization (WEO)

Non-profit Organizations

Overview

WEO is a non-profit umbrella organization covering three geographical zones: Asia-Pacific (APSDE), Europe/Mediterranean (ESGE) and the Americas (SIED). It was established in 1962 during the World Congress of Gastroenterology in Munich, Germany. For more than 50 years, the World Endoscopy Organization (WEO) has led the promotion of high quality and safe endoscopy worldwide, through training, education and research. As a truly global organization, WEO is aware of the changes occurring around the globe. WEO recognizes the challenges facing emerging markets; the shortage of training and training facilities, qualified healthcare professionals and better medical infrastructures. It is WEO’s goal to support such regions and the society’s ability to facilitate the advance of endoscopy in underserved areas has been strengthened through an increasingly connected world. WEO is structured into 12 different committees, chaired by experts in the field. Each committee drives different projects. Through committee activities, WEO reaches out to physicians around the world, striving to promote quality in endoscopy.
