Overview

Witten/Herdecke University is Germany’s oldest private university. It has transformed the educational landscape since its founding and maintains its tradition of pioneering interdisciplinary education. From the very beginning Witten/Herdecke University pursued a reform approach to find solutions to national and international real-world problems by emphasizing the combination of theory and practice. The University includes a faculty of Management and Economics and a faculty of Medical Studies. Several graduate and undergraduate programs aim for future leaders with interdisciplinary skills to responsibly tackle the complex problems of their time and the future challenges of a globalized world. All programs foster the students’ curiosity and creativity. They encourage them to think and act responsibly within their studies and in society. The studies are accompanied by the studium fundamentale to gain an all-encompassing view on the social, political and economic challenges of our increasingly interconnected world. This complement enables that students of all faculties and programs come together to discuss, think about and work on various topics in seminars of various disciplines. This ranges from philosophy, history, culture and literature to arts, economics, health and others. The international programs PPE – Philosphy, Politics and Economis (M. A.) and Strategy & Organization (M. Sc.) are integral to the university’s approach to promote social responsibility.
