Witness Collection is a comprehensive collection of Vietnamese fine art, tracing the roots of modern art in Vietnam from the colonial period French-run Fine Arts College of Indochina of the 1920s, through to the striking contemporary works of today. Currently the collection consists of approximately 2,000 pieces, including oil paintings, lacquer paintings, works on silk, wartime sketches, watercolours, gouaches, woodcuts, pastels, drawings and sculpture. The collection includes work from more than 100 artists, from the French colonial teachers whose influence gave birth to Vietnamese modern art, to the leading wartime and cutting-edge avant-garde artists. The collection has been meticulously researched and assembled over the past 25 years. Works in the collection have been brought together from across Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, US, France and Italy.
