Overview

Wharton Electronics began life in 1975 manufacturing electronic stopwatches and related equipment for commercial and sporting applications. Started by two brothers, Eric and Robert Wharton, the company developed a number of specialised timepieces, in cooperation with national governing bodies, which were widely used in both national and international sporting events, including Equestrian cross-country and carriage driving, Cycling Road Time Trials, International Motor Rallying and other motorsports During the 1980s and 1990s the company developed its geographical reach and today work with over 40 international partners. Our primary sectors quickly grew to include banking and the financial markets, defence and commercial command and control, education, leisure industries, medical and road, rail and air transportation sectors, to name a few. Alastair Wharton, the company’s Managing Director joined after leaving Aston University with a joint honours degree in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science. Alastair heads up our innovation and technology department and offer industry leading solutions to our partners. The company has built an international reputation of reliability, outstanding quality and unrivalled technical support, with more than 80% of sales through our existing customers. There are numerous Wharton Electronics time and reliability critical applications still in use 24/7 after more than 15 years from the date of original supply.
