Wemyss Malts are Scotch whisky makers owned by the Wemyss (pronounced "weems") family from Fife, Scotland. The family's connection with the whisky industry dates back to the turn of the 19th century when John Haig's first distillery was built on family land. Even today, barley from their estate in Fife is grown for many of Scotland's leading distilleries. Wemyss award-winning whiskies are each identified by their natural taste and aroma. Wemyss added a blended Scotch whisky to the portfolio in 2012 in the form of Lord Elcho, named after the son of the 5th Earl of Wemyss who supported Bonnie Prince Charlie in the Battle of Culloden in 1746. The Wemyss family opened a single malt distillery at Kingsbarns in Fife in 2015. The Visitor Centre is open daily between St Andrews and Crail.
