Overview

Simone actively promotes the exchange between civil society and experts regarding subject touching upon gender equality and sexism. Through a bottom-up approach, we strive towards an open discourse, in which everyone who wants can participate, learn more and also share their thoughts an views. Matters more common than known to us, but often labeled as “shameful” or “private” (menstruation, sexual reproduction, gender based violence etc.) are subjects we want to bring into the public sphere and talk about. Through our format of a regulars’ table (de: Stammtisch) we want to create a gender equal discourse which zooms in on commonly heard paroles such as “the gender pay gap does not exist” or “#Metoo disrupts the flirting behavior” and discuss them. Together with interested participants, we want to open the discourse in a gender equal manner and find solutions counteracting such arguments. Sensitive topics like these need to be discussed in order to counteract stereotypes which stand in the way for people of all genders. “The man”, who needs to control his feelings, “the woman” who is by nature caring and good with children, “the couple” defined as functioning only as long as the relationship format is monogamous and heterosexual, “the family” consisting of a biological father, a biological mother and their children. As a consequence, such structures leave no/ little room for people of no gender, transsexuality, polyamorous love, same sex marriages or parenthood and alternative relationship formats.
