US Taiwan Watch: 美國台灣觀測站

Public Policy

Overview

Since its establishment in 2017, US-Taiwan Watch 美國台灣觀測站, a 501c(3) non-profit, has promoted the understanding of Taiwan-U.S. relations and the US-China-Taiwan relationship. From these grassroots efforts and perspectives of Taiwanese Americans overseas, it is hoped that more people, both Americans and Taiwanese, can understand the intricacies of international relations, and even participate in the US policy decision-making process. Originally a web-based tool that started as a g0v project by Taiwanese-American citizens, US-Taiwan Watch focused on building a database of Taiwan-related US Congressional bills, from 1979 to now. By compiling information on and about these bill’s updates, sponsors, co-sponsors, categorization, and media articles, more Taiwanese citizens were able to understand the conversations about Taiwan that were being had in Washington D.C.. Now, US-Taiwan Watch is working on a project with the Legislative Yuan to build a comprehensive Taiwanese legislation database- similar to that of the U.S.’s congress.gov website. Beyond these projects and our upcoming book publication, US-Taiwan Watch accomplishes its goals of disseminating information about the US-Taiwan relationship through social media. By engaging with people around the world and creating digestible news updates, we have been able to further educate others on complicated factors in today’s international sphere. We look forward to continuing contributions to the growing conversation on US-Taiwan relations.
