Overview

UHeights is an incubator for grassroots organizations responding to Seattle's immediate needs. We are a refuge for children with learning challenges whose needs are not met at public schools at Academy for Precision Learning. We are a home base for little astronomers mapping the galaxy at Three Dragons Academy, a creative hub for Broadway Bound starlets, an employer for youth living on the street, and a springboard for Seattle’s up-and-coming artists and performers. We are a Center for the Community. Driven by the Community. We are a place for all ages, talents, ethnicities, sexual orientations/identities, and abilities. Our city and U District neighborhood are experiencing complex social problems that will only be solved by cooperation across neighbors, organizations, and sectors. UHeights is the intersection and gathering place for these important conversations and diverse voices to be heard. Built in 1902, we are a city, state and national historic landmark and one of Seattle's oldest wood school buildings. Founded in 1990 after the Seattle School District shuttered the schools doors, University Heights Center’s (UHeights) mission is to promote life-long learning, creativity, culture, community activism, and the preservation of our historic building. We provide affordable space to 14 community organizations that call UHeights home, in addition to over 160 groups who also use the space for programming. We manage the U District Art Walk, UHeights Theatre Alliance, U District Legal Clinic and much more.
